Troubleshooting

When a request fails, work through this page in order — most problems are located within three steps.

Step 1: one command to find the failing layer

Step 2: locate by status code

Code	Most likely cause	Where to check

429	Concurrency or rate limit	Reduce concurrency, retry with backoff
5xx / 529	Upstream overload or transient fault	Retry later; report if persistent

Step 3: check client configuration

Checkpoints ordered by how often they cause trouble:

/v1 or not: Anthropic format without, OpenAI format with — see API Endpoints;
Key integrity: re-copy from the API Keys page, watch for spaces and line breaks;
Format matches group: an OpenAI-protocol client needs a key bound to an OpenAI-format group;
Composite-key prefix: model IDs must be written prefix/modelID;
Environment variables active: source after editing, verify with echo.

Frequent symptoms
